Supply Chain Planning courses — questions

What is S&OP in simple terms?

Sales and operations planning is a monthly process where sales, marketing, operations, supply chain and finance agree on one plan. The team reviews the demand forecast, checks whether supply can meet it, resolves gaps and confirms the plan with leadership. It replaces separate departmental plans with a single set of numbers everyone works from.

How good does my Excel need to be for a planner job?

Strong. Planners use lookups, pivot tables, conditional formulas and charts daily, and many build their own templates. Some employers use dedicated planning software, but Excel remains the main tool for analysis in most companies across Egypt and the Gulf. Being comfortable with large data sets is a clear advantage in interviews.

Do I need a statistics background to forecast demand?

Not an advanced one. Most demand planning relies on practical methods such as moving averages, seasonal adjustments and trend analysis, plus judgment from sales and market information. A basic grasp of averages, variability and accuracy measures is enough to start. Deeper statistical methods help later, especially at larger companies.

Which industries hire demand planners in the Gulf?

Fast-moving consumer goods, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, retail, electronics distribution and e-commerce are common employers of demand planners in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. These sectors deal with many products and seasonal swings, so accurate forecasting has a direct effect on sales and costs. Postings on Job Academy show current openings by sector.

About Supply Chain Planning

Supply chain planning courses on Job Academy teach how companies decide what to produce, buy and stock before customers place orders. Good planning prevents both stockouts and piles of unsold inventory, which makes planners some of the most analytical people in any operations team.

What planners do and who hires them

Demand planners forecast sales using history, promotions, seasonality and market input, then refine those forecasts with sales and marketing teams. Supply chain planners turn forecasts into production, purchasing and replenishment plans that respect capacity and lead times. Fast-moving consumer goods companies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, food producers, retailers and distributors in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE all employ planners, and seasonal peaks such as Ramadan make forecasting skills especially valuable in the region.

Skills you will develop

Courses cover demand forecasting, sales and operations planning (S&OP) and advanced Excel. You will build forecasts with moving averages and trend methods, measure forecast accuracy and bias, calculate safety stock and reorder points, and prepare the numbers for a monthly S&OP meeting. Advanced Excel lessons include lookup functions, pivot tables and building planning templates that update cleanly.
